Despite an earthly consensus that it was too soon for her to go, the spirit of Carol  Guelzow (Born Carol Sue Kotchick, daughter of Helen and George) took leave of her cancer ridden body early in the morning on April 18, ten days shy of her 73rd birthday. Blessed with an abundance of love, competence, and talent, Carol lived life well, and she excelled in every role she took on in her personal, professional, and academic lives.  She was brave in the face of her own mortality. Determined to see her beloved granddaughters grow to adulthood, she defied a prognosis which gave her two weeks, succumbing ten weeks on, at home, where she wanted to be. All who knew and loved Carol, notably; Sara, Christian, and Kevin, her children; Onalee and Vivien, her granddaughters; Judy & Paula, her sisters; and, Maria and Heidi, her nieces, will treasure our memories of her and we will miss her dearly. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and her nephew Nikki, whom she adored.  We, her children, thank all who touched our mom with kindness during her life. She deserved nothing but.  We are all diminished by her absence.  Owing to the pandemic, and our mom's pragmatism and humility, we are forgoing any formal, public memorial.
